Attached find 2 pics, one of a makers barrel signature, and another showing some otherr features …cheek side of. Buttstock with cheek piece inlay. This gun was given to my dad in the early 1950’s by a fellow WW 1 Legion member who owned a railroad hotel/ bar/testaurant, and had taken it as payment for a room and meals from a couple of guys who came up from Kentucky during the depression looking for work. The bag, horn, mold, and a tin of caps were included. I remember dad casting some bullets and shooting it once. At any rate does this signature ( what you can make of it, and also the gun in general) suggest any possibilities as to the maker.
Thanks…….mikeyfirelock

IMO, looks like an Ohio rifle.

Your rifle appears to be made by gunsmith Joshua W. Stackhouse of Belmont Co., Ohio, over on the eastern edge of the state. The lock bolt plate is typical of later Ohio guns, the initials appear right, and the back side of your gun's cheekpiece with those 3 particular inlays are very similar to a couple of his later half-stocked rifles.

Would be interested in seeing pics of the accoutrements that were with the rifle.
