I don’t know what category this falls under so mods can move it wherever.
I like to duck hunt and turkey hunt. I really have a problem taking one of my good contemporaries and shooting TSS shot in it or dropping it in the creek. I also wanted something quick and short for shooting out of a blind…..
When the Kibler Fowler came out, Wayne Estes suggested that he could modify one to suit, and we wouldn’t be subjecting a high end contemporary to the normal hunting abuse I seem to inflict.
So, Wayne cut 12.5 inches off the barrel and finished it, just in time for Turkey season.

Here’s a normal length kibler in mahogany for comparison

PS that mahogany is in loose hands, dm Stoner Creek if you are interested!

Sometimes you just gotta throw the traditional thing out the window and go for practicality hence the short barrel. Austin was talking about shooting ducks on the creek and I thought it would be tough to swing on a fast moving target with the long barrel. We decided to get the hacksaw out!!!

Very cool gun!
Has it been patterned yet?

That’s sweet. I’m real curious to hear about your tss loads. I just finished my 16gauge and am going to be doing load development the next couple weeks

Nice job Wayne

Looking forward to the pattern results and if shortening the Kibler fowler barrel fixes the pattern being a foot low at 15 yards.
-
That is a pretty piece of wood on the shorty.
-
And....now you have a piece of 12" barrel left over. Sounds like a project you never knew you needed.
-
That looks Great! Great idea and what Beautiful wood!
-
Is that gun going to be at the upcoming Knoxville show? Boy, I would really like to fondle it.
-
That wood is brilliant. What is it and how did you finish it?
-
Love it! Send it to Briley and have screw in chokes installed.

I have always said that Wayne is a genius.

Hey Wayne - Is it my imagination, or did you alter the comb profile and pitch of the butt plate just a tad ? ( seems a bit more evident in the top two photos). Maybe what i call an optical delusion... Anyhow, I like it. Always been a sucker for short guns - Tom

No, I didn’t do a thing to the butt stock profile. There’s nothing in my skill set that could improve on that part of the gun. I thought long and hard before I got the hacksaw out to chop that barrel off too!

Really easy. One coat Transtint honey amber mixed one part to 4 parts water. Let dry. 5 coats of LMF Honey maple applied over 2 days time. That’s it.
