Post by: Dietle on May 14, 2025, 09:06:07 PM
Here's a link to a new page on my website that has recently donated photos of a rifle that was made by Samuel Conrad of Somerset County, Pennsylvania: https://korns.org/gunsmiths/Conrad-rifle-5142025/Conrad-rifle-5142025.html (https://korns.org/gunsmiths/Conrad-rifle-5142025/Conrad-rifle-5142025.html)

Nobody has responded, so I'll add my little bit. I admire your passion and your diligent research on ALL your postings. As a collector I like your biographic details on the individual gunsmiths as much as the actual guns. Your website should become the cornerstone for future collectors. Please keep up these type postings. WELL DONE !!!

I concur with Sequatchie and OLUT. I have visited your site many times. I was just on it again the other evening, trying to figure out more about George Rizer from Cumberland, MD. Many of us appreciate your work; we just fail to let you know.

nice gun, but I notice the bottom of the missing rear sight dovetail.  Do you think it was actually that rough when originally built?

Thanks for the kind words everybody; I'm glad to hear my gunsmith pages are getting used.

Yes this a great website, and thanks for all the efforts and taking time to this great project! I enjoy looking at these pictures!
Back to the OP or content of this Samuel Conrad rifle, one thing I noticed right away was the quality engraving of his signature on the barrel doesn't seem to match the same quality of engravings on the patch box. Its still possible that he may have done the engravings on all the other inlays like toe plate and side plate, if he did then he may have taken more care with his signature.
