Bringing back this one. 5 shots, up to 5 targets for score. 1/2 ball counts. 50 yards or 46 meters, any method, except only use one resting bag or rest, no lead sleds. You may shoot at 25 yards offhand if you can’t do 50. Smoothbore and 80 years old and over may take 6 shots for score.

I like that target. Hopefully the wind and the rains calm down a some.

Crossing my fingers that the doc allows me the freedom to get to the range before the end of June. Tearing one's quadricep tendon is no fun!

I’ve seen some really impressive 50 yard groups posted here lately. Let’s see how you do on this target.
-
Come on guys, let's see those "really" accurate rifles oft times spoken of, perform. It's a great target with a lot of good visual aiming points to get them all in the middle circle on your first or perhaps your second target.

I shot these on Wednesday. I shot the one on the left first. I was using a .565 ball with .022 canvas lubed with bear oil over 70 grains of 2f Goex. I shot these offhand at 25 yards. The wind was variable from 10 to 18 mph. The light was variable as well.
The first shot was the 5 at 12 o'clock, I was holding center.. I held off on the next four and the last shot was the 7 at 1 o'clock.
On the right target I dropped the charge down to 60. grains and held center but the wind was pushing me around a bit.
I was using my .58 Jaeger with a 37 inch Rice barrel.
Hope to get out again on a better day.

I get 38, 36. Alacran.

Shot today with my 32 flintlock cause it's been loaded since squirrel season in December! .310 ball .015 patch and 30grs 3f. 25 yds offhand.
-
I get 41, Badwolf.
-
Down 9, good target.

I spent time today incrementally increasing my charge in the Miedl and the best group I got was at 60 grains of FFg. At 70 the fast twist showed with a significantly enlarged group.
I had some alloy balls (1:20) and used them just to get rid of them. My remaining alloy will get slowly diluted in the pot over time.

Here’s a closer look at the target that I think is a 49 with an unmolested target in back.

I see a 44 on that one Dennis, real close to a 45 1X. Good shooting.
-
Daryl,
I’m pretty sure with the half ball rule that there is a 15 or do I misunderstand the scoring? No matter, a welcomed improvement from the last several months.
Dennis
-
I didn't notice the 15 in the x ring LOL. Had you better positioned the underneath target it would show a better center shot, so yes, a 49/55. My bad scoring. Sorry about that.
-
Daryl,
Not a problem. So some of you guys that are really good could score a 75 on this target, yes?
Dennis
-
Good target, Dennis. A 75 is possible.
-
That was definitely possible for Taylor, Dennis, but 1976 was a long time ago.
-
These are all I have time for this month. Evelyn the .54 jaeger, Moody barrel (1:30 narrow lands), 50 yards sand bag rest.
First target with Minie's, 80 gr 2Fg, bore butter lube in grooves. Accurate, not precise I call it a 24.
https://ibb.co/ztpBrfL
Next are 5 shots .535 RB with.018 patch, water + dawn soap lube, 80 gr 2Fg. Precise, not accurate, I call it an 18. Hole is ragged, so hard to verify 5 hits.

For some reason I started getting some set trigger bar interference when going to full cock, where tumbler would not settle well into full cock notch. Will need to check into this another time. Also, the lock was not sparking consistently, which is always disruptive of my concentration. I just set the set trigger at half cock, then cocked to full. The trigger in this gun has a little allen screw to adjust trigger spring tension. I should be able to lower the set trigger bar a frog hair (it is already filed as thin as I would care to go).

Nice group. I see a 3, 3's a 4 and a 6.
The lead in the bottom 2 3's is evident for cutting each hole. Distinct. the lower breakout in the 4 ring, is just a tear with the slightly rounded upper cuttout being a ball hole.
I would call that 2 shot, an easy 1/2 ball in the 3 ring, due to the curvature of the scoring rings.
Just had a closer look. Actually appears to be a 6 shot group, but maybe not.

I got to the range yesterday. Thursday is an informal gathering of old guys. Each shooting their own agenda and spreading BS all the while. Was a hot day but, as the devil would say, "it's a dry heat". I brought along a little 50 caliber called a Springfield Hawken that I acquired a couple months ago. It has a 1:66 barrel so I thought it would make a nice light weight deer gun. The first few shots showed it was shooting way low so I put a taller rear sight on and posted the ALR target. It was still shooting low but I went ahead and continued with a center hold just to see how it would group. Score is terrible but the group shows promise.
Second target shot with my 50 year old tc hawken re bored to a 54. This one has I think a double hole in.the nine ring. If I had thrown one off the paper I probably would have realized it but I'll go with whatever the group concludes.
I'm scoring the 50 caliber at 17 and the 54 at 40 subject to correction.
I'll try to post the pictures here if they will attach.

You are absolutely right about the double in the 9 ring, Ed.
Shows promise for sure.
That 4 really hurt an excellent target. IT happens.
-
Good target, Longcruise. Keep trying.
Would really like to see some 50 yard rested targets. I see posts of 50 yard groups that should shoot the center out.
-
okawbow, wish I could grant your wish re a 50 yard rested target but it's not going to happen this month. The surgeon isn't commiting to when I might be able to return to the range. Getting to the 50 yard range is trying for a good knee let alone a thoroughly messed up knee. Here's hoping for a return to the range in July.
It's nice to see some very good offhand targets!

Yes, IT was with me. 😅 Was the last shot and probably FTFT (failure to follow through)
I'd like to try the 50 yard rested but probably won't be able to get to the range again this month.

Not sure how to get cleaner holes. Our backer boards pretty shot up, so I put a big cardboard up, then the target. My target with minies has more sharp holes, of course none of them next to another. The round ball target a better group, but paper torn out so I only see 4 and assume 5th in there somewhere. I know it was 5 shots as I set out 5 balls or bullets before I start a target, so I know when to stop.
-
Someone on here told me about Walmart card stock with normal printer paper dimensions that cuts clean holes. He was right and it’s all I use now. It’s cheap too.
-
It's all about fiber size, apparently. Long fiber tears short fiber is used for target paper.
-
Daryl,
You are correct. Fiber length and basis weight of the paper. Official targets are actually printed on a low grade, short fiber paper stock and are a heavier weight than standard 20 lb. copy/printer. The weight of the paper actually refers to the weight of 1000 sheets of the paper, as I recall. Card stock is on the order of 50 lb. weight. Not all printers are "happy" with 50+ weight papers/card stock.
J.B.
-
I have a cheap HP and a cheap Cannon printer they both handle 50 and 60 lb. cardstock just fine.
I had an old HP that didn't most of the current printers out there can handle them.
-
I use 67 pound from Office Depot. It works in my printer without issues. Another option is to use some simple inexpensive spray glue from the school supply aisle and glue targets to cardboard.

I shot these today at Patoka Valley Long rifles in Indiana, after their monthly shoot.
I was able to shoot one good target. There was very little wind and it was extremely hot and humid.
I was using my .45 cap lock unknown barrel rifle. 50 grains of Goex 3F, .440 ball and bear lubed .022 canvas.
I looked at the 2nd target real hard trying to squeeze a 15 out of one of the shots but I came .019 short.
Anyway, I'll take a 48.
I had run out of color toner on my printer, and the third target didn't have any color in the center. The others I printed in black and white.
Don't really know if that made a difference, but the horse fly that was tormenting me did.
I shot these @ 25yards offhand.
-
I see a 48 as well, alacran! Very nice target.
With an overlay, probably easier to see.
-
alacran, that's a good offhand target!
J.B.
-
Good shooting, Alacran.
-
Printed 3 targets, and only managed to get one shot. Too darn hot and humid and rainy :( End of the month, so I'm going with what I got :) .62 smoothbore , 25 yards, braced on tree, sot in the woods so I must have taken out a few deer flies with muzzle blast ;D .610 ball, over 80 gr FFg , lubed blanket wad on ball
Usually shoot 100 gr but I'm getting low on powder. For those who are interested, I miked the bore and it's .615. The .610 ball shoots very well.
I make this as a 7, an 8 ,a 9 and two 10's
Sorry for the sad photo. My camera isn't great

Dennis Daigger with a 49. Congratulations! Pick a good target for us!
