So, I have this old barrel and lock (pics below), but I don’t know much about it. I’ve attached images of the stamps on the barrel. It’s a larger caliber for a target rifle (.54 caliber) and the length is 30 inches.
I do have Roberts’ reference book on Muzzleloading Cap Lock Rifles.
If I want to turn this into a target rifle, other than a set of triggers and other misc. furniture, I’m not sure if anything else is missing. Has anybody here made one of these before from parts like this?
Any help is appreciated and many thanks if you can share your wisdom and insights.

Hopefully the images attached. On the reverse of the back action lock, the brass side plate appears to have been cut. More filigree and decorative work I would think should be evident?

Many such guns are made for picket bullets. Can you check the twist on the barrel? Insert a tight patch on a jag on a ramrod. Make a mark on the rod at the muzzle. Near the base of the ramrod put a piece of tape around it with extended tabs pointing straight up. Insert till you’ve gone 1/2 turn and the tape is pointing straight down. Mark the ramrod at the muzzle again. Measure between marks and multiply by 2 to get the twist in inches. If it’s less than 1:36 it’s not meant for round ball.

That's set up for a bullet starter, not a false muzzle. It's obviously a bullet gun.

Most likely Tryon was the distributor and Howell the builder. Tryon was in the firearms and hardware business for about 150 years. When I collected SXS 16 gauge shotguns I had a Hunter Arms that was stamped Tryon.

Many thanks for the replies! After taking my wife to a doctor appointment for a diagnosis, I had little time to do much else yesterday and last night.
I will definitely follow those directions to get the twist as I was curious myself to know what it is. I need to fully scrub the bore anyway and that’s a perfect opportunity to do it.
My next question will be for the stock. I have other original hardware but the stock is my other search. Half stock or just the butt up to the breech? I should post what the underneath part of the barrel looks like too.
Anyway, gotta run and I’ll post an update shortly if not by the weekend.
