I am surprised that you purchased this horn in America. Based on its inset flat plug with toothed basal rim below the plug, as well as the angled incised lines decorating the two spout sections, I would have placed this horn in Australia, possibly England as a second place of origin, probably around 1820-1830.

Thank you Tanselman for your comments, you may be right as I purchased it from an Australia Dealer who went to the US twice a year on buying trips, I just assumed he purchased it in the US. It could be Australian

Thanks for your comment, it's gold paint, no brass on the horn. Regards

In the Victorian era, a number of these old horns got "up-dated" with gold paint to make them more attractive to display in the home.

Is that the correct way to attach the strap? I'm thinking about how you wrap the strap around the body with staples. What is securing the rings? Is there a piece of wood or something inside the horn for them to screw into? Or are they peened over? Typically, not necessarily this horn. Thank you.
