Title: “JH” signed long rifle with unique engraving, southwestern Pennsylvania
Post by: Dietle on June 27, 2025, 01:11:08 PM
Do you have any info that would help to identify this “JH” inscribed rifle, such as a signed rifle with a similar style patch box engraving, or a rifle with the signed name “Horner”? Based on where this rifle was purchased at a rural auction, I suspect it was made by one of the Horners of northern Somerset County, Pennsylvania (Jacob or John) but I just don’t have much to compare it to. There aren’t a lot of Pennsylvania gunsmiths with the initials “JH”, and only two in Somerset County, so maybe we can figure this thing out. Here’s a link to detailed photos: https://korns.org/gunsmiths/JH-3252025/JH-3252025.html (https://korns.org/gunsmiths/JH-3252025/JH-3252025.html)
