The match for August will be 5 shots. 25 yards offhand or 50 yards rested. Shoot up to 5 targets. The scoring is 5 points for one hit on any of the four squares. The white part of the center square is 5 points. Only one hit per square counts. Half ball counts. 0 points for any hit outside of the squares or dot. The center dot counts 10 points and closest to the center is the tie breaker.

Changed scoring to 5 points for the center square outside the center dot. 10 points for the center dot. A hit on any scoring square or dot counts as long as there are no hits on it already. So if you miss and hit the wrong square, it might still count.😁A possible 30 points total.

So scored like this?

The center yellow square red dot scoring either 5 or 10 depending on where the ball lays (half ball)
Hope to shoot this later in the week.
-
You got it. 1 hit per square, but if you accidentally hit the wrong square it counts, but if you hit a square two or more times; only the first one counts.
-
Looks like fun. 5 shots total, not 6.
Maybe Taylor and I can get out this week. I've some appointments this week, so home from the lake.
Hard to leave on a day like this.

Just printed three of these, hope to shoot them in the next few days.
-
Paltry effort but I can say that I tried. Just needed a half ball better on three of the shots. Hope to shoot it again with my percussion cape gun later this month.

Very close to a 25. 10 points
-
Dennis thanks for letting me know what rifle to use on this target.
I was talking with an old friend yesterday and we both agreed that we don't have time to shoot all the rifles we own, so there is no sense in getting any more.
I will shoot my .58 Jaeger on my first attempt on this target.

.36 SMR, 40gr 3Fg, .020 patch, increasing winds. Offhand 25 yrds.

Second try not as good

Third try not worth posting. I was just trying to snap trigger as I wavered past.

Good job. Snapping is what I do nowadays. ;)

I see a 20 on the first target if that lower left ball is halfway in. Good shooting!

Nice calm morning in Tennessee after a rain shower last night. Got out my sweet little Bedford deer rifle I made last year. Trying out .013” linen on the first target. Every patch was shredded, but still shot ok at 25 yards. 15 points. Second target was better, with .015 cotton canvas. Still went down easy this no hammering. 20 points.
50 caliber, .490 ball, 50 grains 2f, balistol and water lube. 25 yards offhand, standing.

Went out this morning. I shot my .58 Jaeger. My first target I used to figure out where to hold . I changed my load to .60 grains of 2f Goex from the 70 I normally shoot. My second target I shot this one. I will try to go out again with my .54 Hawken, haven't shot it in a long time.

.58 flintlock Jaeger, offhand @ 25 yards
-
A solid 20 alacran. Your leading so far.
-
Went out with my 54 Hawken. This is the best I could muster today.
I used .530 balls with Joann's #40 patching lubed with bear oil over 60 grains of 2f Goex.
This target is more difficult than it looks. It's time to put a thicker front sight on this rifle.

25. Good shooting!
-
Alacran....do you mean ..a thinnah front sight ??
-
No, I meant what I said. When I built this rifle, I put on a .045 thick front sight on it. That was 18 years ago. The front sight on my Jaeger is about twice as thick, and I have less trouble at my advanced age seeing it.
-
I now got my new Jaeger sighted in close enough, that I should be able to give this target a go over the weekend.
Still new to flintlock shooting, so it wont be pretty!!
-
Anyone here ...try those appatures that attach
To your glasses / shooting glasses.
I am looking into them...anything to see the sights and the target would be nice.

Alacran, I find V sights REALLY difficult to use with any width front sight. Just too much blurriness/fuzziness. The wide V really does help.
If using a blade front sight, use the same height as the width above the center of the notch. Holding more height for even longer ranges becomes easily duplicated with a bit of practice, however I prefer a small brass (flat-faced) 45° bead.

It has been just too dry here. Dry enough that I was hesitant to shoot out back in the woods behind our house. I waited until the last day, but no rain, so I walked out and shot these targets in the back swamp . No chance of a fire starting there !
Is target was going well until the last shot went high
20 bore fowling gun, .610 ball over 80 gr FFg, followed by leaf wad 25 yards
standing , but braced against a tree.
2nd target , all shots were going high, probably due to fouling. I haven't shot bare balls using leaf wads before , but thought it fun to try it :) My paper cartridges are good for about 10 shots, and then need a wet patched shot before resuming.
This combo obviously isn't as good after a very few rounds

Nice shooting Bob. I get a 25. That ties Alacran, but his miss was closer and he posted first, so I think the win is his.
Congratulations Alacran! Be kind to us with the September target.
-
That first target is a great one, Bob. Well done and with a smooth bore & with no patch.

It's only 25 yards, but thanks Daryl. I'm sure that there are more than a few dedicated smoothbore shooters who do as well or better at that distance :)
