Title: Info on Gary McGraw
Post by: TN Longhunter on August 04, 2025, 12:30:18 AM
Looking for some information on Gary McGraw.  May even be a member here. A search turned up the name in some results at Friendship trap scores. The reason is I recently bought an English style flintlock.  I thought it was a contemporary make due to the barrels with it but after looking at it I think there is a possibility it is original with new barrels.  I keep saying barrels as it came with three: .54 cal rifle marked “No 36-3 W.B. 1 turn -66”; 12 gauge marked 1979 No 36 Choke; and 12 gauge “cylinder 1979 No 36-2 and is a Bill Large barrel. All are octogen to round. As stated, I’m looking for information on Mr. McGraw in order to find out more about this gun.  I’ll post photos later.
Thanks in advance.

Three days, 140 views and no one knows of him.  Will keep looking.

I considered buying that rifle/shotgun combo as well when I saw it come up. The main thing I saw when looking McGraw up was the same as you: he was active at the NMLRA for a long time, including within the last 10 years. You could reach to the NMLRA and see if they have more information. He's been referenced in their articles at least as recently as 2018.

I have had some PMs to give me info. Not mine a lot out there. Auction description was minimum as you know. Original gun or at least hardware with modern barrels. Only gun in that auction I really wanted. Broke ribs so haven’t been able to shoot it.

Gary McGraw's mother-in-law lived here in Greencastle, Indiana. James Anderson was a friend of his.  Gary built mostly shotguns and nothing to fancy or like the original ones. I have seen 3 that he made and can't comment as nothing that I would jump at. They were shooters and not my taste.
