Title: Grooved cones (nipples)
Post by: WalnutRed on August 13, 2025, 10:59:51 PM
I was watching a show this week about British belt pistols from the mid 1800's. The narrator pointed out that a number of the pistols had nipples with horizontal rings or grooves. This makes sense to me because a couple times I've been setting in a stand only to look down and see that somewhere my cap had fallen off. The impression I got from the narrator was that this feature was primarily on pistols. Did the grooved nipples make it across the Atlantic? I've never seen one on an original percussion gun but I've not seen that many original pistols.

I regularly give my caps a slight pinch to secure them in place. And no I’ve never even heard of grooved nipples.
