I have no idea who or when, I saw it and it warmed my heart, passed on others to get this.

Great find. More pictures!

Rich, a plain and simple fowler, iron mounted, lock has no innards or top jaw, no engraving or carving. I'll take some more pictures when I get back out to the shop.

Probably recycled French furniture?  Architecture looks quite good.

Rich,

French styled hardware, butt plate missing the heal screw and held with a new woodscrew at the tang, trigger guard is very lightly inlet.
All mounts are Iron and show well worn light engraving.

I really like it. If I had to guess, I think it's a NE restock of a French gun brought back from the F&I war. I've seen several, including a very nice fowler fitted with a bayonet lug for later militia use with a provenance that goes back many years and establishes that it has been in Massachusetts for a very long time.

I also have the remnants of one. If I can take some photos I'll post them. The he buttplate, lock and most of the trigger guard is missing so it isn't much to look at. It was given to me by the late Don Andreason who had plans to restore it but hesitated because he didn't want it to be seen as an intact original. Don was very good at that sort of thing. I have the same reservations though I admit to not being as talented as he was.

It's a terrific find.
I'm curious about the condition of the butt plate inlet along the top of the comb. What do you think happened there? Does the mortise match this buttplate?

Kevin,
Nice find and great looking fowler.  Fortunate that it had not been converted to percussion.

Pics of the side plate area might be helpful.
