Title: Finished up a little blunderbuss.
Post by: Justin Urbantas on August 23, 2025, 09:47:45 AM
I finally got around to finishing this little 11 ga blunderbuss.  It feels like a really fun gun and would be really cool with a single point leather sling attached so it hangs down over your shoulder by your side. It's just a pretty basic no frills, English style gun. I had a big mess up when I had inlet the buttplate probably 98% and went to anneal it in my propane forge. I got distracted for a minute and stepped away, and when I opened the forge I had managed to melt it in half. Anyways, I had to order a replacement and spend the time to fit it. I think this is probably the first gun I've finished in about 3 years. I have 3 in progress that I'll finish up eventually.

Very neatly done.  No doubt you are required to yell "WAHOO!!" after firing.

Nice!  looks like fun!  should be great on pheasants, out to about 4 yards?

Don't be ridiculous.  It has a full choke. I can get at least 12 yards with it. ;)

Neat little gun Justin. The only way to find out its killing range is to go out and shoot something. Where there is lead there is danger!

Thanks. Yeah I might take it out for a test fire this weekend.  Probably 15 yards with buckshot.

Buck and ball is fun, Justin, especially on a B-27 target at 7 to 10 yards.

I did not see that stock coming from the early pictures, WOW!  Looks fantastic,  perfect color and finishing in my opinion.  Would you mind sharing what you did to achieve that color and finish?

Nice work on the blunderbuss.

I'm also curious about your stock shaping process. It looks like you may have used a circular saw duplicator. Can you tell us about the kerf lines in this photo?

Thanks.

Very nifty. Where did you get the barrel from?

Thanks guys. The wood finish is a couple coats of Watco walnut Danish oil, then a few coats of tru oil linseed oil finish.
I'm not sure about the lines on the stock. I picked it up years ago with a bunch of other parts from a guy in Montana.  The barrel came from Jack Garner.
