This here is my 11th gun. 4th from a plank.
38" Rice 50 caliber B weight.
I used one of those shape it yourself large siler locks from Track.
I enjoyed that in itself. I also changed the tumbler screw to change things up.
Hard piece of maple from Allen Martin. Barrel inlet and RR hole drilled by Mark Weader.
Allen Martin's guard and buttplate.
I looked at the Joh Schreit 1761 rifle in the Shumway book to copy some of the carving and guide me as I built this one. I also attempted engraving for the first time which turned out crappy but I gotta learn sometime.
Sights are low like an original. Its a tack driver.
I don't like slings myself but it was this customer's request so I made one and attached it as seen in pictures.
Thanks for looking.

Nice stout rifle! I like the cheekpiece side shaping and carving especially. The lock shape is great too.
-
i like it

Good job on the rifle! I know you're not happy with the engraving but a much bigger error would have been to make it too deep. Can't beat the performance your customer is lucky to get an original looking one of a kind rifle.

Well done sir!
-
It has a very authentic look to it. And that lock looks great!

Very nice, and the engraving is nothing to be ashamed of. If you look at originals, you will see lots with engraving that would be considered poor in comparison to yours.

That's a Beautiful looking early rifle Brian!

Since I like your videos I hope you post this build on youtube, good job.
-
Beautiful work, I really like the lock shape! 8)

I love it. Especially the butt plate shape.

4th gun from plank , that's not to shabby. Lock shape , nice, just enough carving. What stain did you use?????? StevenV
-
Good lock shaping as well, nice curves!!
Is it still about the same dimensions as the Siler or perhaps more like the Dale Johnson lock?
-
Very nice indeed! I would call this an 'understated eye catcher'. 'Multiple unique details all around for the knowing eye.
-
great job! :)

Thank you all.
Yes I will post a youtube video once the owner has it in his possession.
Stain was trans-tint. I went too red and was not happy with it so reached out to my superior and he suggested I rub it back off and add yellow next thing you know I don't know what I did but i was happy with it haha.
The lock is the large siler rectangular plate but I looked at a RE Davis Colonial for the shape. I wanted that look of a lock but I wanted a faster ignition.... first and last time I used a Davis, I had to dump another $150 into it for Brad Emig to make it spark.
I should mention I made it a 14"LOP by request. Too long for me but its not my gun.
I'm open to critics for anything you see for improvement.
I know I could have inlet the guard a little better.

It's been said "Only accurate rifles are interesting" and this one filled the idea.I also like the butt plate and lock shape.

I like it! Great job on the carving & the engraving isn’t nearly as bad as you let on. Hard to believe this is only your 4th rifle from a blank. You have a gift my friend.
-
Your simple carving and engraving really "shines".
-
Very nice !

Beautiful piece of art!

Good job!
