Title: Repair of a broken hamer question
Post by: Dave B on October 02, 2025, 06:29:47 PM
I picked up a percusion pistol in need of restoration. The hammer spur broke off. I can silver braze  it back or use my torch to weld it. The last time i welded an original hammer the case harding surface cracked. Does anealing help prevent this?

Case hardening will place stresses in the metal so I’d advise annealing it before any welding. Then it can be re-cased after shaping.

Thank you for that.
