Title: Herschel House Spears Rifle
Post by: Ats5331 on December 14, 2025, 09:32:14 PM
Does anybody know if the Log Cabin Shop's pattern matches the Spears rifle?

Here is the Spears Rifle from Mel Hankla's article:

The one I got from them is a wide butt style. Heavy on early Virginia. It is what most would call a Woodbury Gun.

Thank you!

Mel describes the Spears rifle as a VA Valley gun and I was seeing more Tennessee or Jacob Young? Mel is a lot smarter than me though :)

I think Mel is smarter than all of us. I’ll see if I can find the print tomorrow. It is drawn with a wide flat butt piece and long, flattened trigger bow and laid back trigger.

Sent you a private message with a pic of the drawing, and Log Cabin's inventory number.
