Title: Jug Choke using a lathe?
Post by: okawbow on January 23, 2026, 07:22:52 PM
I am building a 16 gauge fowler for turkey hunting. Has anyone cut a jug choke on a lathe, using a boring bar? How much lead in/ out and how long should the cut out be? This is a Colrain barrel with plenty of wall thickness.

I don't know for sure, but I would suggest a 2 degree lead in to the enlarged section. I'd make that 2" long or roughly twice the shot charge length, then 5 or 6 degrees out to the end choke(parallel) at the muzzle with it being the same length of the shot cloud.
Just a guess.
