Title: Big antique lockplate

There's a Hudson Valley fowler in the Old Stone Fort Museum at Schoharie, NY, with a marvelous big lock.  It has an ill-fitting Charleville cock replacement but the lockplate is Germanic and robust.  Most HVFs have round faced locks, either early Dutch locks or later English round-faced locks.

I saw an original lockplate on ebay and picked it up.  It's really big, 6 and 5/8" long.  Looks close enough to the Schoharie museum gun to me, and I hope to use it as the basis for a close copy.  Seems like it must be from a musket, it is so robust.  Any ideas?  It has a stamp inside the plate, "FL".

I have an almost identical lock on a musket made from assorted parts.I will try and get some pics posted later today.Don't know anything about the musket other than it wandered into my shop last year a gift from a friend.

Thanks, Dutch makes sense.  Timeframe?  1750's-1770's?

It's got alot of bend in it, I'd say your dates are about right. Possibly a little earlier.

I saw that one too, and thought about it, then realized that I didn't have any use for it, so passed.
I was think Dutch 1750ish as well.
Glad it went to a good home!
