Tim, I always look forward to seeing pics of your horns.  Gives me something to aspire to.  Won't ever match your craftsmanship, but trying improves my work!

If you could see your way to resizing your pics it sure would help us members on these clunky slow dial ups.  Takes better than five minutes to download your pics in this thread.

BTW, Tim,

The first or top fishmouth horn is just dying for some typical Tansel scrimshaw on it.

Outstanding Tim! I wish I could go to Lodi this weekend and get some instruction from you on horn construction. Heck with us being neighbors I otta just invite myself over and see those babies in person (kidding). I geuss you'd call that horning in huh? Really nice work!

 I start with a mixture of Sunshine Orange and Golden Yellow Rit dye, more yellow than orange,sometimes with just a little black in it.. I bring it to a boil and then put the horn in until it is in the range of color I am looking for. After I take them out, while they are still hot, I put on a coat of alcohol based leather dye, Saddle Tan, Mahogany, Dark brown or sometimes a mixture of two or three, put it on and wipe it off, See if it suits you if not put on more until you get the color you are looking for. Rub it out with 0000 steel wool and wax. I have tried acid, onion skins, wood stain, leather dye by itself and a number of other home made mixes to color horns but this seems to work best for me.

I was at Tim and Ian's class at the Cabin this past Saturday.  I'll tell ya they feel as good as they look.  Now I know how they got those bands on there ..

 Nice work and thanks for sharing your techniques at the Log Cabin Saturday. My grandson and I both enjoyed your presentation and learned from it.
