A friend has a double cap lock which was made in England in 1863 by M. Richards. He sent a picture by it is of poor quality. Has anyone heard of M. Richards and if so what is the quality (value) of his muskets? I know it is next to impossible to evaluate so I will try to get some better photos if I can. He is in Ms and I am in TN.

There is no M. Richards listed in Boothroyd's Directory of British Gunmakers, 1850 to present. What enables him to date it exactly to 1863?

Besides what Dave just said, are you sure it is not W Richards? William Richards guns show up from time to time and the ones that I have seen have been geared towards the common person. While related to, he is not the same as William Wesley Richards

There were many families of Richards working in Birmingham and the surrounding towns in the 1800s of whch the most well known is William Wesley Richards.
As for M Richards my records show a Mark Richards a Gun and Riflemaker of 17.1/2 Jamacia Row, Smithfield, Birmingham. in business in 1834.
