Title: Powder Horn Literature

Hello,
             planning on building a rifle and making a powder horn and wanting to start doing some homework. There is a lot of books recommended for rifle building but I haven't seen anything on powder horns (may have missed it). If anyone could suggest any reading on horn building that would be great.

 Check out the Sibley's book Recreating The 18th Century Powder Horn. You will not be disappointed.

Thanks for all the sources posted so far.

lol,........yeah Gary I have more hobbies than I can pursue now anyway. Before I start something like this I like to do a lot of reading and reaserch, thats part of the fun for me. I have thought about doing one for a while and lately decided to go ahead and start moving in that direction. In part due to looking at a friend of mine's original. I see it all time but the other day I got it down off the wall and gave it a good going over. It's just super interesting looking at the detail and craftmanship that went into one. Next time I'm over there I'm going to take some pics and post here to see if any of your guys can give some info on the maker. I have found some info  on the internet but it's been pretty limited.

    It was made by J.M. Caswell and has  R.S. Clark "Extra"  on the reciever. It has a deer on one side of the stock and a fox on the other and an octagon barrel. The rifle weighs in at around 13 lbs if I'm not mistaken. Anyway,.........I'll get some pics up in here before long and let some of you experts take a look at it. I think it's a beautiful piece of work.
