Trying to entice a shooting buddy into the world of muzzleloading so I whipped up this pouch and horn in a hurry for him for Christmas. The picture of the body side of the horn turned out even more blurry than these but it has a religious poem out of a farm day book dated 1828 belonging to the new owners ancestor, an eagle and vinework border.

That's a very nice set...I like the way you have the horn suspended above the bag...just like I would do it. It's a wonderful gift.

Good catch Taylor. I have examined many original bags with horns attached and looked at many photos as well. They all were 19th century rigs of course. Almost all of them had the horn on the flap. I have tried it and cannot use that method.
I figured this would be the easiest to use for someone not used to all the gear.

Looks good, nice job. I too like the horn above the bag be it on the bag strap or a strap of it's own. Is the tip part of the horn or is it applied?

Tim,
The tip is part of the horn.

Nice Rig! Personally I have always worn my horn on the flap of the bag. It helps to keep the contents of the bag in the bag, especially it the bag flap has no button or other tie down. I guess it is all in what you get used to.

Great looking set. The fellow should be hooked by now and is a lucky fellow indeed. I'll bet it'll be the nicest gift under the tree in his eyes.
