Eric has a very finely crafted Lehigh rifle on the Contemporary Makers blog. His work is certainly more refined than mine. I just slap mine together. ;)

Very nice Eric. A real sleek and slender looking rifle as they should be.

Mark your words are too kind :), Thank you. That rifle was the longest project I've ever built - I learned a lot and it's my regular shooting gun, but looking back on it I didn't have much fun building it. Now I've learned to enjoy the process much more and let the gun be what it wants to be, so to speak. That was my first foray into using an original formula varnish that I brewed - it has darkened significantly over the past 7 years and is much brighter underneath where the surface has worn, as you can see in these pics. I took some newer photos of the rifle last week but they didn't make it onto the blog in time. Someone a while back on the forum said First you become a gunsmith, then you become a photographer... I've got lots yet to learn on both fronts ;). One of these days I need to learn how to forge a triggerguard and buttplate for a southern gun. Got two pistols on the bench right now - Back to work on them!

Very nice job Eric!!!!

Eric, these few pics you've just shown us are excellent. They could easily be mistaken for pictures of an original rifle. Your rifle has mellowed gracefully, and is a great tribute to Mr. Moll.
-
That is one handsome rifle Eric, love the carving, architecture, and finish.

Eric, that is one sweet looking rifle. Great work!

Moll could not have done it better! Age it a couple more years and sent it over here.

Not my normal style of rifle, but quite pretty! Ironically I just recently cut up a sideplate like that because its composition matched a triggerguard I was reworking and I thought it was so incredibly ugly I would never use it anyway (ordered the wrong number). Looking at it in context and with your nice workmanship, however, I regret it and might need to order another one :).

Yep, I like this gun too. Seems to have a pretty believable feel to it. A little age seems to have done it well.

I like the progression Eric. Makes me want to like Lehigh guns ;D
