Title: Luckenbill JP Beck rifle
Post by: Matt / PA on July 25, 2014, 04:09:02 PM
I'm guessing the majority of the great rifles that many of today's builders labor over go right from the bench to the customer's hand without ever getting a minute in the spotlight for anyone else to enjoy.
Here is a Beck rifle that Ron built for me that I am very proud of.... Its a great shooter and after seeing Eric's JP Beck on the Builder's forum I got inspired to show off Ron's take on a Beck rifle.  :)
At my request Ron used a wonderful 44" Getz lightweight .54 barrel. (I think it's the same barrel Don Getz used on his auction gun a few years ago and luckily Ron had one leaning in the corner of his shop.....a rare occurrence I'm sure!)  The lock is a Stan Hollenbaugh JP Beck. In fact it's an all PA build, lock, stock, barrel and castings. ....even the wood is from the same area as my hunting camp. It's a true "Pennsylvania Longrifle" which is pretty neat in it's own right! 8)
Finished rifle is just over 7lbs and it is a joy to tote around the mountains of north central PA.
Thanks again Ron for a cherished rifle!

Great looking rifle!  Love the color and the burnished look.  Using one of Stan's Ditchburn locks sure makes it easier to get the right shaping around the tang and wrist area.

Beautiful gun! I have the pleasure of owning a couple of Rons rifles. Not only does he build stunning eye candy, but his rifles shoot as well as well as they look. You will not be disappointed with your new Beck!  ;D

Several years ago I started a Bucks County smoothbore that I put away after a myriad of little mistakes.  I was ready to toss the stock and start over when Ron suggested I let him try to fix and finish it.  It turned out remarkable and I prize it today.  If one is looking for a resonably priced, shootable recreation I could not recommend anyone higher than Ron.  After building over 250 guns he has certainly mastered his craft.

Rice .58 Marshall profile barrel, and a slightly altered Chambers Dale Johnson lock
