My aunt was given an Allen rifle that belonged to my great grandfather.  I have been trying to find out more about this rifle and the gunsmith who built it.  The signature example you provide is an exact match.  Can you tell me if this is Silas Allen senior or Silas Allen junior rifle?

I can tell you it was roughly made between 1817 and 1822 if that helps to identify which Allen made it.
