Just looking for some opinions on this. I have my own but just curious as to what some of you might think. If you want particulars on the rifle, let me know.

The answer to your original question is "yes"...one of those three. ;D. If I had to bet I'd saw SW VA. The trigger guard and the cheek piece and tailpiece make me think along those lines.
Where was it found? That's probably close to where it was made.
-
"Feels" more like SW VA, but certainly one of the 3 (TN, NC, SW VA). I like it. How long is the barrel, what caliber is it? Thanks for sharing the photos.
-
I have no idea as to locale but I like it. Someone, somewhere made a serious flintlock hunting rifle and did a good job. It shows a lot of honest, normal wear and good workmanship.I like that lock and I think when chosen for this gun it was with the idea that it would not be taken out of the woods with a broken cock.

Tip O' The Hat to the dozen or so people over the last 150 years who could have converted it to percussion and didn't.

Sequatchie Rifle - The barrel is 46 1/4-inches long and mikes out to .355 caliber at the bore.
-
That is a dandy alright. 46 1/4 " bbl...!!! Awesome.
Does the unusually "Beefy" cock provide any clues...????
-
I would guess one of the Washington counties (VA/TN). ;)

I would guess one of the Washington counties (VA/TN). ;)
Aka Washington Co., NC, in between :). Seriously, it has lots of TN characteristics, but several vestigial SW Va. references.
-
Why not SC? Every time i see one with a forward curve to the rear of the guard people seem to say, South Carolina! But I don't know! And I have seen a side "plate" like that somewhere before as well. ??
-
A number of S.W. VA guns have the forward pointing grip rail spur. I always considered it a VA feature. ;)

Mark: Now that's an interesting observation. Having looked through catalogues of suppliers in the process of considering the many guns being built that I have, it seems to me that this specific feature most often, if not always, carries a SC designation. Never recall seeing it called a VA or SW VA feature. But you are the expert and as they say, the expert knows best.
