A guy over at the Primitive Archer site mentioned he had an old gun he was going to "fix up". I asked him to put up some pictures so I could see what it was. This guy is an incredible craftsman, boat builder, knife maker and a host of other crafty areas but not gun building.
The guy who has the "gun " now did not do any of what you see in the pictures.
I don't think the gun is worth fooling with. The barrel is bent at the weld, the lock is missing, and there is not much worth saving. To my untrained eye it looks like the stock was off an original and the rest of the stuff was slopped on later by someone without any gun building knowledge.
Does the stock look like it is off an original to you guys?

I hear what you are saying. Pretty is skin deep but ugly goes all the way to the bone!!! Must have been a shooter cuz it sure is bone ugly.
-
That is just... WOW! :o
dp
-
The owner said he paid $10 for it.
-
That hurts to look at it. Kinda reminds me of my ex. Makes me ask what was I thinking
-
Eric he paid exactly 10 dollars too much for it
-
10 dollars is too much for a tomato stake.
-
OH THE PAIN!
-
I am noticing many of the parts are unfinished, and of apparently modern manufacture. Is it not possible that very little in the way of old parts were used? I know that is still painful, but it is would not like someone with little, or no, talent for the work, butchered up a fine old long rifle.

The owner was going to try to straighten the barrel and use it. A kind soul on the PA site said he would send him a barrel and a lock that he wasn't going to use if the owner would trash the barrel and not take a chance on it.
-
Obviously from the Donner party it says so on the side plate, or mail box brass. Good ideas on how to mount a ram rod with out drilling a hole. What's in the barrel channel? nde
-
Wood glue and sawdust to "bed" the barrel.
-
I think the recoil pad is original.
-
Stocked with chainsaw? Why is the nut welded on the barrel?
-
That is a rather agricultural looking piece. I wonder if it may have been some kids' first go at building a rifle?
-
The nut is so you can stick a bolt through the big hole in the forestock and attach the stock to the barrel.
-
Kinda looks like one of my first builds!
What's wrong with it?
Does look primitive....to say the least.
I think I saw Traditions stamped on the second picture.
