Just participated in a turkey shoot this weekend. One shot center X closest gets the turkey, $2.00 a shot. Aside from being a great club fundraiser it ended up being a great us vs. them shoot.
Out of 30-40 shooters 8 of us were shooting muzzle loaders (us) the rest (them) shotguns with slugs and scopes and rifles.
We started out with a pancake & egg breakfast at 7:00AM and started shooting at 9:00.
Center X followed by "running deer"
Twelve shooters to a flight 1 turkey per flight, about twenty flights. About sixty yards, all offhand.
Black powder shooters took 90% of the turkeys! We discussed and realized the muzzleloaders were all more comfortable shooting offhand and the slug gun/rifle shooters were all bench shooters. We were more familiar with our guns and good percentage of them had to dust off their guns before they left for the range.
A fun event that helped put cash in the clubs piggy-bank and convert shooters to come over to the dark side ;)
