I came across this last week and had never heard of one. Not the best of photos with a phone however I would welcome comments or information. It appears that it originally had a cap instead of a plug at the spout.

That looks like a Turkish Powder Horn.
You can find ones like that on ebay.

I had the very same thought.

Thanks for the information. I thought it would make a wall hanging conversation piece. I now need to find a piece of Moroccan to make a strap. ;D

Just braid some Mouflon hair into a strap for authenticity. :-)

I got these pictures at the Cascade Mountain Man shoe in Monroe in March. I was asked to see if anybody knew anything about it. I forgot about it until seeing it here. Not sure if this is the same one but it would appear to be. This piece is certainly not air, moisture, or for that matter, powder leakage proof. I believe it was made as a tourist bobble. I would agree that it looks like it could have an Arabic origin. It weighs a ton! The strap mount rings swivel in the horn but have a lot of play in the horn leaving holes to the outside. I didn't see any evidence of it having a tip plug (wear) but the tarnish could have obscured that. It would probably polish up nicely.

Found this in a quick search of the web.

Steve: ALL descriptions seem to match, I'm going to match up the "dings" in the butt cap next. How this might have wound up in central Maine is a bit of a mystery. I believe that it may have had a cap on the spout instead of a plug. If nothing more than a conversation piece I find it interesting. Thanks for your response.
