I just finished this powder measure up this weekend. Imagine if you would that you either broke your Pennsylvania screw tipped powder horn or found a lost screw tip in the woods during your travels. Being a man from the 18th century, you would more than likely find a use for the tip vs. throwing it away. That is the inspiration for this latest measure.
The measure is turned from one piece of horn and features a brass adjustment rod with a furniture ring finial. The 10 to 70g measure uses a leather washer to maintain the charge setting in lieu of a thumb screw.

David,
Very creative!...... with a lot of "cool" factor. If I didn't already have one shaped like a swamped gun barrel.....hmmmm.

Pretty nifty!

Neat idea, nice clean turning and the threads look like they took really well. How big is it, standard screw tip area and the hole?

Tim, The overall length of the horn is 3 5/16". The threads are 1/2-13. The powder chamber is 3/8" diameter and the brass rod is 3/16" diameter. The current measure I am working is a southern style tip and collar made from antler. It has a 5/16" diameter bore for the powder and I thinking of using a 1/4" rod. These dimensions will be more in line with a smaller horn vs. a large campaign horn tip.
