Title: 1902 article about Davy Crocketts rifle
Post by: DaveM on October 20, 2017, 03:10:19 AM: Came across this old article. Did anyone ever hear of the rifle described in this article?

There are pictures of this rifle around. It is very interesting, and quite modern for the time period. The pistol grip stock, percussion lock, and the flashy inlays, suggest this was more of a presentation piece than an everyday rifle. Davy elected to take his old flintlock to Texas, and left this modern marvel at home.

Post by: Majorjoel on October 20, 2017, 09:24:18 PM: I have a picture of this rifle locked up in my photo buzzard account. It has a back action percussion lock and is really quite ugly compared with most other standard lock rifles. IMHO

It is. The rifle is mentioned in his autobiography.

No, that's not the rifle described in the article, it's in response to the post by Majorjoel. That was about another rifle presented to Davy Crockett.

No, that's not the rifle described in the article, it's in response to the post by Majorjoel. That was about another rifle presented to Davy Crockett.

OOPS! Sorry about that. I must be missing a post here. When Majorjoel said he had a "picture of this rifle", I just assumed he was talking about the one in the article. Is anything known of the whereabouts of the rifle described in the article?
