Finishing the Lancaster on scale.
In my last mail I made a mistake. I gave you the measures in cm.
The rifle is 24,5 inch.

I rebuild my rifling bench. I started with 5 grooves, now I make 7.

That's awesome. I'm not sure what possesses someone to make miniature longrifles but I'm glad it does. They're really incredible to look at. The only thing that could've made these pictures any better was if the cover was off that Vette in the background.

In the Netherlands, you can't own a "real one" So the next best thing is a legal "Miniature" Adrie is a craftsman that makes incredible "models" even crossbows and other scale replicas. Now, how did you get the vette through customs? :) - I'll be in Eindhoven in Feb, hope we can catch up,

Wonderful miniature rifle!
How far are you from Amsterdam? I seem to be going there quite regularly lately.
Had a the great visit to the Rijksmuseum a few weeks ago. Wanted to go again but the weather was horrible on Friday as you probably know.

Delightful work! Just lovely. Do I see a '64 Vette peeking out in one photo? I did a lot of wrenching on a '64 in high school for one of my teachers. Easy to work on. Best wishes, and God Bless, Marc

Something out of square here. You can't own a real muzzle loader but you can join a gun club???
Makes no sense but then European gun laws outside of Switzerland don't either.

I used to wonder the same thing about scale trains and boats. What I have come to realize (after reading every Model Engineer Magazine from 1920- 1980) is that when working to scale the builder has the opportunity to learn techniques that would be impossible for them at 1:1. The scale rifling bench in this thread is an excellent example. ANYONE with an old rolling pin and a sliver of Silver Steel can actually learn how to build a tool that will rifle a barrel! No need for big spaces and big money. Same thing with the reduced scale firearms-gives the builder the opportunity to learn each and every technique and architectural nuance with a greatly reduced investment. Brilliant really.

I have been intrigued for years by the Beyer-Garratt steam locomotives and the Dornier DoX Flying Boat
with 12 engines.Are there any really good models of either?

When you first got in touch with me I was your only friend in the USA. You sure have plenty now, I am so glad that I introduced you to ALR.
Jon, (Kingsbury Arms ) is a good friend of mine, I hope you get to meet him. He is also a master craftsmen, you will like him very much. I would like to be there with him when you start comparing projects.

I must thank you and your wonderful wife for your gracious hospitality today.
It was a true pleasure to meet you both and see your fine rifles.
The craftsmanship of all those small parts just amazes me, especially the locks you made.
For all the guys here on the forum, trust me that the miniature rifles are way better in person than in pictures. The attention to detail on some of those tiny parts is wonderful to see.
Watching those 2/5ths scale locks throw sparks was extraordinary.
Kingsbury Arms, I hope you get to meet with Adrie in February.
