Excellent work Jerry!
-
jerry, you do some fine work!!!!that would look really good on my jaeger...how do you get the gold into those cavities....
-
Far out! And that is a very good qestion. Is it gold leaf or what?
-
I beat it in with a hammer and a punch. A claw hammer. It's not gold leaf it's about .010 thick. This cap is sterling silver. If it were steel then you could put gold leaf on it. You can't do that with sterling because , sterling is too soft for the teeth to hold up.

Beautiful work.

Jerry,
That is beautiful. Obviously, the craftsmanship is masterful but the design is what really attracts me. I all works together. I am anxious to see the whole gun.

This is a gun I'm engraving for a old customer. He is making the gun. The pattern is taken straight off of a gun in the Jim Chambers Jaeger book by request of the customer. I did alter it a tiny bit. The side plate and the barrel are the real good parts. I will probably do the barrel. I get to do my own art work on it. This gun might be on the show circuit next year. It will never be for sale.
If it was it would probably sell for about $85,000.00

All kidding aside, that is one nice piece of work.

Jerry,
What's the process for doing that? Do you carve a master out of hard wax or some other material?
-
Jerry,
That nosecap is quite stunning!! Please do advise us of your process for creating the casting.

TOF.
You can carve it out of wax or pearwood . Then make a silicone rubber mold of the carving.
With the silicone mold you can make wax duplicates. Then using the lost wax casting process, cast as many as you want.
For the lost wax casting process it is best to buy your self a few books. It is called precision casting for a reason. It is a very precise process. Temperature sensitive and timed within a few seconds. It takes a while to learn it well.
