Always had a thing for the House Brothers school and I’m looking into possibly building an early southern rifle. I’ve seen a few images around of rifles from this school but finding good up close pictures is usually a bit difficult, so I figured I’d ask

G' Morning Rocklock,
I made a couple Woodbury style years ago. I do like the look of them! (Herschell rifles that is)
There's one here in this thread;

Have another thread here somewhere I'll look for.

Here are some pictures of a James House rifle that a guy I ran into at Davy Crockett Days In Lawrenceburg Tn had. He bought a $1 raffle ticket and won it, he had no idea of its value.

8) 8)... Great looking rifle, galudwig,.... give us some specs,... bbl length, cal., overall length, etc,...

Thanks Dana! She's a .40 cal with a straight, 42" Colerain barrel. Davis Late English Lock and Davis triggers. The stock is plain-Jane hard maple with about a 13 1/2" pull. It was my first attempt at building from a blank, so I didn't want to take on anything too complicated. I just hoped to get the lines right first off. I forgot to tell Pecatonica to drill a 5/16" ramrod hole and they drilled out 3/8" instead. That kind of made things too tall though the wrist and lock area, but it still looks okay.
John House forged the hardware for all the class members and then he taught us how to assemble the pieces. I did all the fit and finish work on the buttplate; trigger guard, and side plate (I really do like doing filing work for some reason). Hershel taught us how to pour the the pewter muzzle cap and I did that too. Hershel let us use some of his stamps on our forgings, so I took advantage of that perk! He even engraved my name on the barrel and that is what really makes this gun special for me.

I have always liked Steve's work
-
yep, Steve Davis is one of my fav's too. Haven't seen any of his current work, but he was doing some fab stuff 20 years ago.
-
Steve told me that this rifle was built in 1988.

Steve told me that this rifle was built in 1988.
That's about when I used to see lots of his work down at Gunmaker's Hall at F-ship.

This is a Jim Kibler kit with Woodbury touches. I did the box, nose cap, molding and toe plate with some trigger and design work by Ian Pratt. Frank House did the finishing and tweaking.
I think that qualifies as Woodbury
This rifle will be auctioned at the 2018 CLA auction

Forty caliber. Would be a good all around gun. Amazingly handy for a 46 inch barrel
