Half stock English fowler, 1813-1833? Barrel was shortened 1 1/2” at breech and converted to percussion. It measures 39 1/16” now. I am wondering if it was possibly shortened at muzzle as well. Sight seems awfully close to the muzzle to me but I don’t know. What do you think?

I've never understood why it's common practice to put front sights as far back as is usually done.
Maybe I will find out...my current build I put the sight right around an inch from the muzzle. Had no issues with the first range session.

The front sight looks about right, David.
A spider was usually fairly close to the muzzle.

So when leaning the gun against a tree it’s not leaning on the sight?

Rich, I guess that could be a reason. Still not an issue to me lol...I like my front sight to catch the bark so my rifle doesn't fall over lol.

Fashion, I'm guessing.
