Title: Horn/antler nose cap
Post by: Tennessee.45 on June 13, 2018, 03:41:36 PM
How common was it to use horn or antler for nose caps on earlier guns?

On early guns, not common at all. They are seen on some high end later guns. Horn, and in rare instances ivory, are seen on late percussion guns, but I don’t think I have ever seen antler used. Most antler is porous at it’s core making it a poor choice for a nose cap.

Not on American guns. More a Euro/English thing.

Water buff. for English guns. Antler for some Euro guns, as in German and maybe Swiss guns.
Those are the ones I've seen.
