Title: Breech plug wrench
Post by: Nhgrants on August 14, 2018, 12:44:38 AM
I would like to make a breech plug wrench. Thinking of cutting a tapered notch in some 5/8 steel plate and
Then weld the plate to a 1 inch diameter piece of rebar for a handle.
Does anyone have photos of wrenches they have made? Anyone have any advice.
Thanks

Hello Nhgrants, welcome to ALR.

Jason at Rice Rifle barrels sells both a breech plug wrench and vice adapter barrel holders - check them out at: http://ricebarrels.com/products.html

His breech plug wrench has a stem that you can fit an iron pipe on for leverage and he uses aluminum so as not to scar the barrel or breech plug. Make what you need, of course, but I thought you might enjoy seeing Jason's approach.

Nhgrants; Sir, I have Mr. Jason Rice's, Breech Plug Wrench and Octagon Barrel Vice Jaws. High quality products. I have used both products often in the shop. Have a great week. AJ.

The Rice tools are the only way to go. BTW that would be Jason Schneider at Rice barrel.

I've got the Rice wrench and a large thick crescent wrench (if you already have one) and close the jaws just enough to not ride up on the breech plug tang upper edge, absolutely works just as well.
