Looking for any info on this rifle. Lock is signed Josh Golcher barrel is signed M. Hale. I did find an Ohio rifle maker Michael Hale with no dates and a Pennsylvania rifle maker Mathias Hale 1819.

Michael Hale of Ohio. I had one of his rifles and seen a couple others. On all of them I seen they had that same X marking on the rear sight.

I just discovered this webste, and in doing so answered a question I have had for at least 35 years. The gun shown made by M. Hale has the exact same stamp on the barrel as a longrifle I own. It also has the odd "confederate flag" design on the rear site. I was never able to read mine as it is so worn but this made my day. I will be watching often now,
