JTR's post on the Old Barn auction #804 (being possibly attributed to a David Shomo) in VA made me think of making this post. Does anybody know where I can find out more info about David Shomo and his work, or other gunsmiths (if there were any) in the Shomo family? My mom's family is Shomo and they all originally are from near Hamburg in Berks County in the 18th century. Some moved to VA / West VA in the late r1700's or early 1800''s. thanks for any info on them or for any info on where I could find photos of their work.

Dave, Sellers Second Edition of American Gunsmiths lists four Shomo gunsmiths.

Shomo, Daniel. (1792 - ?) Barbour Co. Virginia. 1850c - 1855. Son of John Shomo.
Shomo, James C. (1834 - ?) Barbour Co. Virginia. 1850c Son of Daniel Shomo.
Shomo, John. Berks Co. Pa. 1780 - 1782.
Shomo, John M. ( 1855 - ?) Barbour Co. West Virginia. 1880c. (Whisker III)

I think http://aspenshadeltd.com/index.html had a couple Shomo rifles for sale awhile back. If he does not have them posted on his site, may still have pictures of them. I think I seen a couple for sale in the last few months , that might be where I seen them, not sure.

thanks guys very much. The John Shomo 1780-1782 is extremely interesting, and I had not seen that before. He is actually my direct ancestor on my mom's side. I wonder what the original source for his notation is? I assume you guys don't know, but I'd like to find out more about that.
