Title: What could this be?
Post by: Curmudgeon on July 04, 2019, 07:12:43 PM
Here are the remains of a long gun picked up after maybe a century of outdoor exposure.  It was found with some small leather items, powder measure, and powder horn so most likely it was a flintlock.  There isn't much to go on but any ideas on the style or builder of this firearm?

This shows the patch release rod was pushed from the bottom.  The lower section of the buttplate is gone but a screw secured the lower part of the plate to wood, poorly visible on a picture not posted.  I think the buttplate and patchbox metal is brass.

The trigger bow is brass, broken at the front, pinned at the rear.  Visible angled file marks are visible on the inside of the curves but my photos don'w capture that.

This looks like a powder measure.  Made of antler, bored from the end.  My next trip I want to determine the grains it was made for.
