A mold for a 45 Maxi Ball?
-
Do you mean sells them or sells them cheap? Buffalo Arms sells one...Single Cavity Rifle Bullet Maxi Ball Mould #454616 45 Caliber 245 Grain $78.69/ Midwest shooter has it for $71.19 it appears to be a Lyman.

You can find them on Ebay fairly regularly. The anodized aluminum one that Thompson/Center marketed is an excellent: casts easily, not too expensive, and more dimensionally "accurate" than the Lyman product.

2nd E BAY , lots of molds for sale.

If you don't see it he will make one to you specifications. They are top notch and a steal for what he charges.

Thanks for those leads. Don't know why Ebay didn't cross my mind.

I checked ebay and there are 6 original .45 cal TC maxi molds up now but most think they are made out of gold considering the prices they are asking.

Wow. Cheaper to get the Lyman.
I see one on Ebay for 59.99 + shipping... sorry it is a Lyman. discptn says This item may be a floor model or store return that has been used... Well that's not good.

I have maxi molds by Lyman/Thompson in 4 calibers, most from memory need to be pushed thru a sizing die for a perfect piston diameter fit as they run large. For that effort they seem to load and shoot way better.

TC has a following that is fueled more by nostalgia than by actual quality. The TC molds I have owned were not very good, about like LEE but anodized in a brown-copper tone. They did not have a steel insert for the guide pins and wore quickly. I would not seek them out.
Accurate molds cost $90 for a 2-cavity and $144 for a 4-cavity.
They have a maxi in 54 listed already. I would use it as a template with amended dimensions scaled for 45 caliber. Once you figure out the reduction in dimensions, multiply by 0.833 in this case, and send the resulting measuring drawing to him for review. You could also get hold of a TC maxi ball and measure it. I think you want the larger top band to engrave.
He is very fast. The molds are the best I have ever used. I can not detect any difference between cavities. The bullets drop out easily and can be placed on the landing area.
Keep in mind he is deaf. You can not call. Correspond by email.
