Title: Plain Mid 18th Century Outfit
Post by: Mark Elliott on August 28, 2019, 07:35:34 PM
I thought that I would share this mid 18th Century outfit that I just finished.   It is a relatively simple and plain shot pouch based on the one in the Clash of Empires catalog with just a little bit of tooling on the flap.  The pouch has a center divider that acts as a welt.  The edges are well burnished.  I used the same button strap adjustment as on my early VA pouch.  The pewter flap button is attached to a horn button on the inside so that the stitches will not pull through the leather.   All the buttons are backed by another button.

The plain horn is based on the one on p. 13 of Powder Horns, Documents of History by Tom Grinslade.   The horn is 14 1/2" around the outside curve not including the staple or stopper.   The base of the horn is about 3".   These two are going to be used with a relatively plain Jaeger.

I think it's all very nice and attractive.  I particularly like that horn.

Good looking set Mark, I have always liked that strap adjustment and button setup. The horn looks right, Great file work, very clean and sharp/detailed, nice color and finish also.

Ditto the above, another very nice job!  Those are the neatest little pouches, and that horn matches it to a “T”.

Mr. Elliott,

Beautiful work.  Nice simple classic lines.

Quick question, what are the dimensions of the bag?

Thanks for sharing,

Kevin

You know, as good as this set looks on pics, it looks even better in hand. Goes with my .54 American jaeger.

Thank you Mark!

Very nice set.  Plain and simple which I like.  The tooling gives it a little extra character without going over the top.  I do, too, especially like the horn even though I'm a bag nut.

Nice clean simple lines Mark. Having good clean lines beat out bling every time for me.

Well done Mark.  Simple horns are sometimes the hardest to pull off with the right design and look, very nice.Gary
