Title: Needed lock panel help
Post by: hortonstn on September 26, 2019, 03:10:38 AM: My lock panels are ok but if someone would do a tutioral or video it would be appreciated
All the ones I see on here are sharp and look great

Post by: Clowdis on September 26, 2019, 03:30:51 PM: You can keep the edges sharp by block sanding the tops of the lock panels as one of the last steps before finishing the stock. This can make them a little wider depending on how much wood you've left for sanding so don't forget to allow for that. Be sure to sand all the way down to the edge of the bevel on the lock plate, if the plate has a bevel.

Or scrape, rather than sand.

Post by: WKevinD on September 26, 2019, 07:18:29 PM: Smart Dog (Dave) did an exceptional presentation at Dixons this year on shaping the lock panel area. Someone filmed the entire presentation but I have seen no mention of it.
Smart dogs example was clear and fairly easy to duplicate but I find it difficult to explain.
As was said earlier a final scrape or sanding with a sanding block will leave sharp edges.

A sanding block will make a very sharp edge.
