I’m going off pictures from the KRA disk and SMR’s by Mr. Pierce. I’ve noticed that most of the SMR’s have a lot of cast off. I put quite a bit on this one. One of the issues I ran into was the over the comb tang. I wanted to run it all the way to the buttplate but it would have pushed the over the butt part to an angle that looked out of place. I guess the only solution would be to use no cast off. Anyhow, anyone see any issues so far?

Looks like your doing good. What kind of triggers are those?

Modified Roller USA’s ;D

Nice inlet on the tang, Mike. Bloody difficult.
-
Mike, looks good to me so far. Your inletting on the tang is very good. I, too, am in the midst of a southern rifle build with an over the comb tang so I realize the work that went into it. Is that walnut you are using?
-
Looks like fine inletting to me Mike. Proceed! :-)
-
Very Well Done.

Hey Mike, looks good so far - regarding cast off with the long tang, when doing my layout on one of these I usually start the cast off at the breech end of the barrel or maybe an inch or so down the wrist from it, then I make the tang follow it. Really this is how I lay out cast off for the majority of the guns I build except for ones that need a different treatment.

Thanks Ian for the info. Very much appreciated.

Looks to me to be coming along extremely well!

Looking good, Mike. Looks like another fine rifle in the making.

Up next. This should be quite the learning experience. I think I’ve read every word on this forum about pouring pewter nose caps.

Mike, please post pics and let us know of difficulties or tips and tricks that u may run into or learn with your poured nosecap. I'm approaching that part on mine as well and having never attempted one, am curious to hear your thoughts and see your finished product. Good looking rifle!
-
Great looking nosecap, Mike.

Mike looks like your coming along really well. I usually don't use cast off if I'm using a skinny butt plate because it doesn't seem to
need any. Maybe some body shapes need cast off. As far as the nose cap goes give me a pm before you do it with any questions and I'll try to help.

Looks good. I don’t see any air bubbles.

Thanks Stoner. You and Brian’s advice worked. It still needs some filing to level it out but it turned out good. I’m done for the night.

Very nice, I sure wish the last thing I poured would have turned out that well. Was a bit hot, and cooled loose so I need to try and redo it.
