Title: tumbler
Post by: Jim Kibler on November 17, 2019, 11:51:36 PM
In another thread I mentioned making a prototype tumbler for our late English export lock we're working on.  Here, a model and a photo of the part machined today.  All looks pretty good.  Notches will be cut in another operation.  Comments and questions are always great!

All the best,
Jim

A thing of beauty! I would take me all day to machine and finish one on my manual machines.

Looks good to me also.I have always preferred the linked mainspring
over the old sliders.I have made a bunch of those as well but no more
of either kind.

We're considering doing a left hand version of this lock.  I think there is a good chance it will happen.  We are considering doing a pre-order and when we reach a threshold we will start production.  I think provided all goes well we could have something in 6 months or so.

All the best,
Jim

Jim, I pre-ordered one of these locks yesterday for an up-coming build (British trade rifle) and can't wait to see the lock.  However, most British rifles of the period had stalking safeties.  Have you given any thought to a version of this lock with a stalking safety?

Since pre-order is now up, went ahead and did so. No hurry; just wanted to get in the queue!

Jim, asking for a friend - ever considered making a conversion version of your locks or kits? He's a percussion guy, likes your Colonial rifle kit, but doesn't like flints all that much. He seems a little uncertain about doing the conversion himself.

Hey Jim. Are you thinking of doing the left handed version with the waterproof pan as well?  I just picked up a pair of barrels for a double gun, and a pair of your locks would really go well on the build

I'll probably just do a left hand version with the standard pan, but I'm not sure.  There are complications with the waterproof pan that I still need to work out.

All the best,
Jim

Yeah, we'll do a percussion version of these in time.  Lots to do!
