Title: quality of TOTW barrels?
Post by: adkmountainken on March 02, 2020, 04:05:54 AM
i will be having a friend build me a new smoothbore shortly and i am in the process of buying the components.  he pointed out a barrel on Track Of The Wolf that would foot the bill. my question is where do they get the barrels or do they make their own? i was guessing they are using Colerain? any insight? yey or ney?

The Colerain barrels are a tapered and flared oct to round.  If you look up the barrels on the TOTW website, you can see the dimensions. Other barrels can be straight oct to round which is not my preference.  Just check to see what you're getting before you buy, if these details matter to you.

There are a number of barrel makers that build good barrels, Rice is one besides Colerain.
Suppliers include TOTW and Muzzleloader Builders Supply in Idaho.

Can't help you with TOTW but have several with Rice barrels and my new one will have  one also. Their website shows the dimension and many are swamped with nice crowning done on them.

If the hole in a smoothbore is round and smooth and consistent in diameter then it really does not matter who made it.

Shape and external finish are factors important to many, but not all.

TOTW also used to sell Green Mountain barrels & excellent barrels they are.

With a thin wall barrel like a smooth bore,I want a real gun barrel material
to be used. The only place for lead in a gun barrel is in the bullet or shot load.
