Title: Attention Bob Roller
Post by: Martin S. on April 25, 2020, 07:25:11 PM
Bob, I think you need to change the password on your email.  I believe you have been hacked.

I got the following email from someone pretending to be you.

The first email asked if I could do you a "favor".  I replied, "Sure, what can I do for you?"

Here is the reply:

Begin quote:

Glad to hear back from you, I need your help to purchase an iTunes gift cards at the store OR online via Amazon Or Card email delivery for my Niece, Its her birthday but I can't do this now because I currently traveled for a heart surgery. I'll pay back as soon as i am back, Kindly let me know if you can handle this.

I hope to hear back from you as soon as possible.

Thanks,
Bob.

End quote.

I know this can't be you, because you prefer USPS money orders.

I am posting this here in case others in your email address book have been contacted the same way.

Mods, if this is not allowed, please delete.

I missed the email difference.  I was not 100% sure it was a scam, which is one of the reasons I posted it here.

Thank you for confirming it.

A good friend of mine who is also on the ALR list received a bogus email from me several days ago. Thankfully, he realized that it was not my usual address and deleted it without opening it.

Bob Roller asked me to pass this along.

Bob does not currently have an operating computer.  He also does not have a niece and has not had any heart problems.  And as previously noted, he likes postal money orders or cash for doing business.

I spoke to him on the phone and he is doing well.  He is getting a new computer and he has no idea where this scam came from.

I am glad to hear that the real Bob Roller is safe and healthy.

I wish I could put the scammer in jail.

I got one myself. Thought it was bogus so I sent a PM through the forum to Bob. Glad to hear the only thing wrong with Bob is his computer!

Bob,
I got the note as well.  It didn't think it sounded like you, and I thought it was a hacker as well.
