Title: Original Plain Horns
Post by: Top Jaw on May 14, 2020, 04:39:22 PM
Here are some original horns I have collected, and where they are from - if known.

Left to right
A) large early Horn I bought at the CLA over 10 years ago. Don’t know any more about it than that.
B) A large Horn that came out of Danville, Kentucky area with a tuned base.
C) Medium Horn with octagon tip that came from Lancaster, Pennsylvania area.
D) medium horn with nice strap ring and drawer pull on the base. Came from Troy, Ohio.
E) PA screw tip from California.  (Wish I knew the story of how it made it there!)  Was missing it’s base and screw tip when I got it.  Still has neck staple.  Restoration started with a replacement base.

A shot of the tips and bases.

Top Jaw,

Very nice group of horns.  Thanks for sharing them.  Great job on the replacement base plug, it just looks right.

Thanks for posting .  One of the things I always liked about these plain horns.  You can picture them with the everyday common man.  A hunter, farmer / homesteader.  Because they  are not fancy they don't always get the  notice I think they deserve .  Nice bunch!

Glad someone else appreciates the plain, everyday common horns too.  :)

Those are pretty nice horns. Nice architecture, some nice plugs and so on. Maybe “plain” but elegant nonetheless.
