Post by: mark brier on May 24, 2020, 03:36:01 PM
My kids wanted to do some shooting yesterday so we shot my granddads early Flintlock Hawken their great granddad T.K. Dawson. Dennis is kindly going to post the videos for me shortly. Thank you Dennis. .54cal 110gr 2F .018” patch .530 ball. Target is about 11 1/2” swinger

A GREAT day indeed, Mark.

A great day indeed.I remember that rifle and I think it has my triggers on it.
Tom would be 90 had he lived to this day and a lot of us still think about him
and your grandmother Helen and the great meals I enjoyed in the Dawson camp
just inside the main gate at Friendship. We got these pictures on my wife's tablet
and I am wondering if the youngsters were shooting that crescent butt plate off
the shoulder instead of the bicep? Thank you for sending them.

Other than the satisfying wack a couple other things I noted was the placement of the barrel on the rest and it did look as though they both shot off the shoulder. Thanks for letting us in on the fun,  :) ;D

They could stand to still grow into it a bit. It isn’t out far on their arm but is off the shoulder just past the arm pits.

Great rifle and even better kids.   This is America and that's what families all over should be doing.

I had the same thoughts as to the butt plate, Bob. Both kids hit the plate - really good shooting.

110 grains of 2F packs a wallop especially with that butt plate!
