Just finished the photos and am prepping this rifle for delivery to the owner. I am extremely pleased with the authentic styling and function of this Germanic lock designed and produced by Chris Laubach. The stock is the darkest of the blanks I have imported from Armenia. Finished with a slightly tinted Alkanet oil. Barrel is 62 octagon to round by Charles Burton. The overall concept is from a straight groove Boar Rifle illustrated by George Shumway in the Germanic Heritage series in Muzzle Blasts.

Great looking rifle Ron and excellent work. Almost too pretty to actually go on a hunt, but I'd used it, lol..
-
Wonderful work in every way Ron!!!!!!!!

Just wonderful! What is that Armenian wood called?
-
That is fabulous, I’d be leary of even shooting that piece, it looks like something that does belong in a museum,
-
Wow!! quite stunning. I echo the others just to pretty to shoot.

The Stock is Julgens Regia. English, European, Circassian Walnut. Fine textured and dense.
-
Superb craftsmanship.
-
Beautiful,
Cheers Richard
-
PS, is there any plating or finish on the lock?
Thanks Richard

Absolutely beautiful, Ron! The lock really fits the piece nicely. Silver mounts? Nice wrist inlay as well..., did you cast it? Really nice looking rifle!! Best,
Ed

That is beautiful work. The dense walnut really carries the complex carving very well. Though I understand the sentiment, it does not belong in a museum. It belongs in the field killing boars.
-
Beautiful work!! Sterling silver mounts? No patch box?
Best regards
Rolf

I'll try to answer some questions. The mounts are silver. The molds for the mounts I made from a Felix Meier (Vienna) Folwer. The wrist inlay is from that group as well. These mounts can be obtained from Muzzle Loader Builder Supply. The original rifle that was the inspiration for this project had no butt trap and the customer desired to stay close to the original. I carved a different version of the shell pattern behind the cheek rest. The lock was polished, but no plating was added.

Beautiful! Very nicely done!
-
Oh WOW! Ron, quite superb.
-
Lovely rifle Ron, as always top notch work. I have used two pieces of Ron’s stock blanks and both were very good and dense and carved beautifully.
-
Really nice! Love the butt carving.
-
Ron, that's another very nice rifle.
-
All over stunning, Ron. Gorgeous.
-
you'd never see me carring something that nice to shoot a pig. SHOW PIECE
-
As much as I admire Ron's skill and the perfect rifle he has created, to my thinking, there is no such rifle as one too nice to shoot. A lot of analogies come to mind......sigh! Really tasty work Ron.
-
Ron, I was really expecting that lock I got from you to come all engraved, and my name inlaid in 24k gold script!
Really enjoy seeing your craftsmanship on that rifle. See ya at Sharonville!
-
My War Department would have my butt if I took this rifle into the bush ;) What a masterpiece.

My way of thinking, Life's to short to hunt with an ugly gun. Ron if you need someone to break it right, send that rifle to Alabama, give me and Tim Cosby a week or two and we will have hogs and deer piled up for you. We'll give it that nice warm well used glow that everyone likes to see on a good gun. ;D ;D ;D 8)

Not being a collector, I see no reason for having a rifle and not shoot it. Taking it hunting, perhaps, could be a different use, but shoot it, I would.

A real piece of Master Craftsmanship. Just beautiful!
