Dave this rifle is owned by a collector in TX and a brother to it is owned by a collector in southern IN. I am pretty sure both rifles have been shown here in the past.
-
That's pretty wild, the curl in the wood is fantastic also. Thanks for posting this Dave. I hadn't seen it before.

Thanks bro Sherman. How you tonight? I would like to see rest of this gun. Dave 8) 8)

Doing well bro Fortner. Sitting in my shop playing with my fone instead of producing. I think this gun can get away with the back action lock . It just ads to the funkyness of it. I haven't cared much for back action guns in the past but certain ones I'm beginning to appreciate.

Same here. I built one a few years back, using antique parts, and a Rayle 34 cal barrel. I should shoot it all the time. Scandlous accurate.
Got any snow up your way? None here presently. Fine by me.

Just a little bit of snow here and there in the shade. Got till
End of Saturday to shoot more deer with the flintlock up here. Shot one first day, have been working in the shop since.
Gonna get back out with the fellas and finish filling the cupboard next few days

I have other photos. I’ll ask for permission to post

I own that rifle. The hardware on the gun was painted black and the stock needed extensive restoration around the lock area. The work has mostly been finished, just minor stuff left to be completed. The rifle must have been a great shooter because the breech area was shortened about 1 1/2" due to heavy corrosion from the percussion caps. Then, it was fired so much it now has very heavy corrosion again. The inscription on the barrel reads, 'Wm. Miller The Shooter of Tenn. 1857'.

Unique rifle. Could you tell us some barrel dimensions and
Approximate caliber?

I forget, I'll have to measure it later today.

I love that one. My favorite SMR especially with the barrel inscription.

Hey y'all, I have some pics from Moses White who has recently obtained a smr quite like this one, back action lock and all, cept patchbox different.
Would it be best to start a seperate thread for it? Thanks, Dave F 8) 8)

I was told those guns with that style box, and comb covers were made by a East Tennessee smith named Sabbath.

How were they signed ? I drove over & saw Chris's rifle. It is nice. I own the other rifle & copied the style to build my grandson's rifle. I would love to hear about the third rifle. Howard

Just looking at it again, between sneezin fits, do you suppose a saw blade was used to make this unique side plates and finial? I would be of the type that would if I got the proper hair in the right place. A little help from the jug be ok, too. :-* :-*
Looks downright evil. Like the kind of blade one would expect Special Ops to use. 8)

Mountain70 I reckon the teeth were made by a file. If ya look at them closely. They are inconsistent. Very cool patch box
One of my favorites.

Roger that. Probly same one that made all the multi knuckled bo nanna patchboxes. hahaah. Dave :-* :-*
